Privacy

Last updated: July 15, 2026

DIY Church Website provides free WordPress themes, plugins, documentation, educational articles, downloads, and a self-service community forum. This Privacy Policy explains the information handled when you visit the site, create an account, use the forum, request support, or download a resource.

Information we collect

Account information

When you register, WordPress collects the username and email address you provide. Your password is stored by WordPress as a one-way cryptographic hash; site administrators cannot view your original password. Your public display name, forum activity, and information you voluntarily add to a profile may be visible to other visitors.

Forum posts, replies, and comments

Topics, replies, and comments normally become public. They may include your display name, submission date, and the content you provide. Do not post passwords, API keys, authentication cookies, private member records, payment information, confidential church information, or personal information belonging to another person.

Technical and security information

The web server, WordPress, security tools, and caching services may process IP addresses, browser and device details, requested URLs, timestamps, referrers, error information, login attempts, and similar logs. This information is used to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the site. Download requests may appear in normal server logs.

Messages and support requests

If you use a contact form or request assistance, we process the information you submit so we can respond, moderate the community, investigate a report, or improve the documentation and products.

Cookies and local storage

WordPress uses cookies for sign-in sessions, account preferences, comment and forum functions, and administrative security. Caching, spam prevention, embedded media, analytics, or other enabled site services may use additional cookies or local storage. You can control cookies through your browser, although blocking essential cookies may prevent account and forum functions from working.

AI-assisted support

The support forum may use the DIY Support Agent through the WordPress AI Connector. For monitored topics, the system may send the topic title, redacted topic text, and bounded excerpts from approved documentation to the AI provider configured by the site administrator. Common email addresses, phone-like numbers, and labeled secrets are redacted before transmission, but automated redaction cannot guarantee removal of every sensitive detail.

AI-assisted replies are limited to qualifying support questions and are disclosed as AI-assisted. Bug reports, feature requests, security, privacy, moderation, account, billing, and uncertain questions are routed for human review. Provider processing, retention, and security practices are governed by that provider’s own terms and privacy policy. Connector credentials are not stored by the DIY Support Agent.

How information is used

  • Provide accounts, downloads, documentation, and forum participation.
  • Authenticate users and maintain session security.
  • Answer support questions and send requested notifications.
  • Moderate spam, abuse, unsafe content, and policy violations.
  • Diagnose technical problems, protect the site, and prevent fraud.
  • Identify recurring support needs, documentation gaps, bug reports, and feature requests.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce the Terms and Conditions.

When information may be shared

Information may be processed by service providers needed to operate the site, such as web hosting, email delivery, security, backups, caching, analytics, embedded-media, and the administrator-selected AI provider. Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect users or the public, to investigate misuse, or as part of a legitimate transfer of site operations. We do not sell forum account information.

Public content and third-party links

Forum content and comments are public and may be indexed, quoted, cached, or copied by others. The site and distributed resources may link to WordPress.org, documentation, podcast directories, video hosts, Bible services, donation providers, social networks, or other third parties. Their privacy practices are controlled by them.

Retention

Account data is generally retained while the account remains active. Public forum content may be retained after account closure when necessary to preserve discussion continuity, documentation value, moderation records, security, or legal compliance; the display name may be anonymized where appropriate. Security logs, support cases, backups, and email records are retained only as reasonably needed for their operational purpose and backup rotation.

Your choices

You may update available profile information from your account. You may request access, correction, export, anonymization, or deletion of eligible personal information through the Contact page. Some information may be retained when required for security, legal compliance, record integrity, or the rights of others. You may unsubscribe from optional email notifications through the applicable message or account setting.

Children

This resource portal is intended for church leaders, staff, volunteers, developers, and adult site administrators. It is not directed to children under 13, and children should not create accounts or submit personal information without appropriate parental or guardian involvement.

Security

Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used, but no website, email, or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. Use a unique password, keep WordPress and your browser updated, and never post credentials in the forum.

Policy changes and contact

This policy may be updated as the site, providers, or legal requirements change. The updated date will be revised when material changes are published. For privacy questions or eligible requests, use the Contact page. Please do not include passwords, API keys, or other secrets.
